EVENING SEMINAR - 'IGL GROUP WORK IN THE PARK': IRVIN YALOM'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE CORNERSTONE OF GROUP WORK

Irvin Yalom, M.D., born 1931, Psychotherapist, Writer, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, and Master Group Facilitator, has made significant contributions to group work and its value in working with clients in mental health and interpersonal change.

This seminar - "Irvin Yalom's Contribution to the Cornerstone of Group Work" as part of IGL's Group Work in the Park: Foundations and Fundamentals Program, will address key aspects of Yalom's theory of group work, tap into some of his insights and input, and allow some exploration of the impact of implementing his work within the diverse areas of psychotherapy, mental health and community services.  

The interpersonal approach to group work that Yalom researched and developed will ensure his contribution to group work, psychotherapy and community services is maintained. His work has had massive impact to the foundations of group work today, to the recognition of the value of group in community and plays a large part in the education and training of group facilitation.

Venue: Bradfield Park Wellbeing Centre at 41 Alfred St. Milsons Point (The old Bowling Club at the foot of the Harbour Bridge)

About the presenter: Edna is a Psychotherapist, Coach and Group Facilitator, with her own private practice in the City and Northern Beaches.  She supports individuals, couples and families in 1 on 1,  and group settings, with a variety of life issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship and life balance.  Edna teaches group facilitation as a faculty member with Jansen Newman Institute and with Sydney Gestalt Institute, and volunteers and works in the community supporting families and individuals struggling with loss, trauma and abuse.

'Group Work in the Park' is a new series of evening seminars conducted by the Institute of Group Leaders to promote excellence in group work and a greater understanding of its foundations and fundmentals and hold firm to group work's history. This history has informed significant practice in building social capital, reducing isolation, improving mental health, improving interpersonal relationships, supporting people to face challenging life transitions, enabling people to make significant life changes and renewing psychoeducational group work.
