WORKING IN THE HERE & NOW IN GROUPS
Using the skill of immediacy to help the group to achieve its interpersonal goals
‘Here-and-now’ interactions in a group are a major source of therapeutic power and have the potential to energise the work of the group in its efforts to meet its goals. This workshop draws on the theory underpinning the unique power of immediacy and focuses on the group leader’s skills and role in activating this in a group setting.
Participants in the workshop will: ~ Gain an understanding of immediacy and the role it plays in groups
~ Recognise common resistances in working in the 'here-and-now'
~ Identify the group leader's own vulnerability and risks involved in working in the 'here-and-now'
~ Explore the group leaders' task in steering and maintaining the groups here and now
~ Practice skills used to harness the power of the group in exploring interpersonal issue
Facilitator: Theo Chang Theo Chang is the Group Program Manager for Family Drug Support. He is responsible for leading different groups ranging from support, psycho-educational, through to experiential. He also trains and supervises group leaders/facilitators.
Who should attend? Anyone interested in group work.
